About St Thomas' Surgery

About St Thomas' Surgery

St Thomas’ Surgery situated at the top of Haverfordwest town has 2 branch surgeries in the villages of Llangwm (Mill Street) and Broad Haven (Millmoor Way). The surgery covers a large rural area and serves approximately 13,000 patients.

St Thomas Green

The Original Surgery

The original surgery was at 17 Market Street, Haverfordwest, where Dr George Bowen (1888 – 1957) practised.  Due to the location and size of the building and the increasing number of patients using the surgery it was decided to commission a purpose-built surgery near St Thomas Green, Haverfordwest.  This was opened on 18 May 1985, by Miss Isobel Bowen, the grandaughter of Dr George Bowen.

St Thomas' Surgery Today

The purpose-built surgery provides 19 treatment rooms and offices, for our large compliment of doctors, clinical and administration staff.  A spacious open plan waiting room leads from a large front foyer with wheelchair access, patient toilets with disabled and baby changing facilities.  There is ample parking either on St Thomas’ Green or the Rifleman Field car park, which is situated at the back of the surgery.  We also have a reserved car park for disabled drivers outside the main entrance to the surgery.

Our reception desk hosts a patient booking in screen, where patients can book themselves in when they attend for their appointments.  There is a portable induction loop available for patients who use a hearing aid.

We are a GP Training Practice which means we generally have Registrars, Foundation Programme 2 (these are fully qualified doctors who are undertaking GP training), Medical Students and often have other professionals undertaking further training, working within the Team. You may be asked from time to time to consult with a medical student, if this occurs you will always be seen by one of the practice doctors.

We will undertake to update and develop this resource to extend the level of information offered.  We hope our patients and visitors find it an informative and useful tool.

We also have a practice leaflet which is available from the Reception desk.  This is available in large print on request.
